We made it!

On Tuesday at 11:30am, the big blue shuttle van picked me and the kids up at the house to head to the airport for our trip to Tennessee.

After a 2 hour shuttle ride, we arrived at the airport and I figured out how to get 2 kids, 2 car seats, 2 suitcases and 1 backpack to the ticketing counter!

We only had a 50 minute layover in Chicago, so I was praying that our flight left on time. We quickly boarded at 2:15pm and as the plane backed away from the gate, I sent up a little thank you to the big guy above for answering my prayers.

Then, the plane stopped taxiing. For 30 minutes! Machanical problems... That's just great. (thanks goodness I'd already been in touch with an old friend from germany who now lives in Chicago, just in case we got stranded overnight in Chicago and needed a place to go.)

By the time we were in the air, based on my calculations, we would have 20 minutes to make our connecting flight. I felt pretty confident that 20 minutes would be enough. 15 minutes would be close. Come on good tailwinds!

During the flight, the kids were angels! No naps, so thank you iPhones! I actually enjoyed a glass of wine and read my book (I didn't think that would happen again until they were teenagers!) while they played.

Once we landed in Chicago at 9pm, we geared up and ran- from terminal C to terminal F! We literally ran right on to our next flight- hot, sweaty and panting with one kid on my shoulders and the other holding my hand in a death grip! But we made it!

After getting to the house at 1am, we all slept like babies at Nanna and Grandpa's that night. Then Wednesday afternoon, Brian arrived- a day ahead of schedule from Little Rock! He surprised me with a gallon of my favorite potato salad from a great BBQ place in Little Rock, the Whole Hog Cafe. It is SO good to be back with Brian after 4 weeks apart!

Today we had a treat for Tate- a visit with his best friend, Caleb, from when we lived in Monterey and he was 2! They haven't seen each other in exactly 3 years. Wendy and her two sons (Drew is 10) live in DC and were driving through Knoxville, headed to grandmas in Mississippi for Christmas. (dad Scott is deployed...) we had a great visit this afternoon- the boys still got along great and bonded quickly over a game of tag, chatting about zombies and their mutual love of Legos!

One more chance to smile, Caleb?

Oh well, boys will be boys!
