For the last couple of months, we have been hosting Brian's international attache counterparts for dinner once a month. We pick two different countries to invite, the kids join us for dinner too, and so far so good. But for October I wanted to do something different... I wanted to host a murder mystery dinner with fellow Americans, where everyone came in costume since it was October and all.
Brian was kind of on board with the idea. When I started planning, we were only allowed to gather in groups of 5, which wouldn't make for much of a fun night, and then it increased to 10 people and I got planning!
Well, one couple would be out of town, one couple didn't feel comfortable gathering, and another that we invited had some last minute medical stuff pop up. But, in the end- we got the right group for sure.
A lot of planning goes into these things actually. You pay for a kit, then have to print, sort, send everyone their roles and get organized. One night this was my table-
When everyone arrived (to our cocktail party, instead of dinner to keep it light and fun), they got a folder with all the info they'd need for the night about their character-
Here is Brian telling everyone the flow of the night and the rules-
Everyone got so into it! We picked "Murder at the Deadwood Saloon" as the theme, thinking maybe a cowboy hat or boots where in most everyones closet. Someone ended up getting into character by padding their stomach heavily and wearing a yamaka!
And in the end, it was poor Doc Jones (our real embassy doctor) that was murdered-
We replaced his body with Hades, the halloween skeleton we own so Doc could rejoin the party, and Hades stayed on the ground the whole time!
It was a very fun "something to do" instead of just chit chat, eat and drink. We will for sure do it again, and our kids want to do a kid one too- they said it's like a real life version of Clue or the game Among Us.
