heidelberg castle sunday oct 11

this past weekend we traveled to heidelberg, germany to spend the weekend with our friends allison and justin. brian and justin went to navigator school together 12 years ago and then were at NPS together in monterey as well- and now they are just 1 hour away from us! it was great to see them and their 3 kids. elise is 8 and loved macy, while their twin 4 yr old boys were delighted to play with tate again! on sunday we went to the heidelberg castle- which mark twain wrote about often. heidelberg was the first city he traveled to in europe. the castle is amazing- most of it is ruins now, since it was burned 3 times! the view is incredibe, as you will see...

this picture is a little out of order- but hillarious! macy fell asleep in my arms during breakfast, so i just layed her down in the livingroom while we ate. well, elise went and got her baby and put it next to macy- and then she sat and "babysat" both babies while we ate breakfast- it was too cute!

fall foliage and vineyards- two of my favorite things!
this is a wall of a tower that fell down... imagine that!

a better picture of the thick wall which fell...

these homes are amazing- and what a view across the river to look up and see the castle!

the kids- looking for knights maybe?

the grassy area is where the lions were kept- seriously, they had lions!

the best view of the entire front of the castle is from this bridge- the next time we go we will get one from the bridge!
