Brian's birthday started out with a celebration at his office, with cake. Luckily, not this cake-
But, that was the original cake! His secretary went to the local grocery store bakery and asked for a cake that said "Happy Birthday Boss." The gentleman behind the counter asked "How do you spell boss?" Seriously?!?! He then went in the back and returned with the above cake, apologizing that his had had gotten shaky with the letter O! When she went to pay for the cake, the cashiers insisted that another cake be made for her, so the cake they presented to Brian looked fine!
For Brian's birthday, HE chose to go away Fri-Mon, with the kids, to Half Moon Bay. There is a huge pumpkin festival there each October that I have always wanted to go to, and knowing this was the last year we would live so close, he chose for us to go! (I thought for sure he would choose a child-free weekend in NAPA!)
Brian wanted to take the bikes and his favorite birthday present- his jeep! We pulled up to the hotel lookin' like The Clampett's-
It was about a 2.5 hour drive and as soon as we got into town, we began seeing the pumpkin patches-
Then we pulled up next to this truck at a red light, how perfect-
Friday night, we drove to dinner at Sam's Fish House, where I found oyster crackers from a town just about 20 minutes away from where I grew up!
I also found an amazingly delicious lobster roll!

This is one happy birthday boy!
Well, that just sucked. We had stayed up too late the night before, had a bit to much wine too. So when we decided to get to the pumpkin pancake breakfast early Saturday morning (we had read it was a must-do!) we did not beat the locals and ended up waiting in a very, very long line.
And it was cold. The sun NEVER came out the entire 4 days we were in Half Moon Bay- so I was cold in my little Super Girl costume. And you know the saying, "If momma ain't happy..." After wanting in line for 45 minutes, and not moving but a couple feet forward, we decided to drive back to the hotel for the continental breakfast and to get changed into regular clothes! It was a brilliant decision.
Then we drove back to the festival!
The kids and Brian braved a haunted house with this pirate-
The festival was wonderful! The food, beer & wine, kid activities, crafters/vendors- it was all incredible. But boy were we tired by the end of the day! So tired that this guy fell asleep at dinner-
Sunday morning- birthday day- we woke up, headed out early to the Half Moon Bay Pumkpin 5k!
all the registrants got not only a tshirt, but also a pumpkin- of course!
first up was the kids 1K race. Brian decided to run along side of them (as a warm up, to pace Tate, make sure they didn't go off course?) but luckily he did because poor Macy wiped out after about running 20 feet! Brian picked her up and ran with her...
Now here comes Tate, happy to have earned a goodie bag-
It's Macy, running on her own-
She finished strong- and happy. So I have NO idea why she burst into tears when I took this picture-
Brian realized that turning 40 bumped him into a new category to compete in- 40-49 year olds!
He succeeded in trying to beat his personal best and ran his fastest 5K ever! Go old man, go!
Next up- birthday gifts!
For the last 8 months, I had been working on a project of having all Brian's friends, family and coworkers send me photos of themselves holding signs saying "Happy Birthday Brian!" I put all 201 photos into a book and gave it to him as a surprise the morning of his bday-
We snuck in a little relaxing this weekend too-
And some playtime-
But after gifts, we headed out to birthday brunch- at the Ritz Carlton!
The resort is amazing-
It was a special time, for sure!
Afterwards- a quick photo shoot for the kids at the hotel!
Then we headed out for the beach and a bike ride!
As we were getting ready to ride, we see these horses walking close to us-
Then a while later, we stopped for a break and what do we see? The horses again!
We also got the chance to look up into the sky and see a couple of crazy motor propelled parachuters drive by-
The beautiful beach cliffs-
It was COLD at the beach, but my husband wanted nothing more than to just sit, drink a bottle of wine, listen to the ocean and watch the kids play. Okay, I'll suck it up!
That night we got to-go pizza and went back to the hotel room to watch football! FANCY!
Monday, time to go home. But, one more stop- we had to check out the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company!
I hope my amazing, over-worked, unselfish, husband felt cherished, spoiled and loved throughout his birthday weekend away- which is exactly how he makes us feel 365 days a year!
