We #4 of summer was all about Mayer. Mayer showed up as the new kid in Tate's class last fall, and oddly enough we were stationed together with his family while in Germany when the boys were 4 years old. Of course they don't remember playing together there though. They quickly made up for lost time and became fast friends in 4th grade. Sadly, Mayer's family is moving to Omaha Nebraska so we needed the boys to absorb s much time together as they could this final week they had together...
Jen and I did a pretty good job making that happen, as they were together from 3pm on Monday until 8:30am on Friday, taking turns sleeping at each others houses. They never got sick of each other and enjoyed every hour that passed. Mayer even sat patiently outside the pool during Tate's swim practice! Mayer did have to go to a family luncheon on Thursday from 11-3, and they were both pretty antsy during those hours apart.
We went for free Slurpee's at 7-Eleven on 7/11-
Hit up the waterpark-
Went to IHOP on their 58th anniversary, for .58cent pancakes!
Saw the Secret Life of Pets
And followed the Sweet Frog car to get some frozen yogurt for lunch-
And that's only some of the fun stuff I documented. What happens at Mayer's, stays at Mayer's! Mayer has an in-ground pool in his backyard, and both of our houses have basements with video games where the boys have the luxury to crash out practically uninterrupted.
What a week. When I was 10, it is exactly what I would have wanted for myself. I hope we created some new memories for these two that will last until they see each other again... I can tell Tate's heart is hurting a bit. This is the first time he has even been left. In the past with his besties, he has been the one to leave them, which is always easier than being left behind.
The pain associated with leaving is just part of this military life we lead, and it comes with loving other military families too... It's a hard lesson to learn so young, or maybe it is best to learn it so young? Kids are way more resilient than we adults are.
PS- Macy had a week of friends too! Sleepovers with Hannah, Clara and Katelyn. She was not forgotten about during our week of Mayer... And she requested we craft. So we made some things for her dolls- a hoverboard, iPad & iPhones, and bubble tape. Sounds crazy right? Well there is a mom WAY more crazy than I am that makes all things American Girl. And she does a fantastic job, keeps it simple, and makes it look so easy. http://www.americangirlideas.com
