Enough

As soon as we heard that the survivors of the school shooting in Parkland, Fl were having a rally in DC- we instantly decided we would go. I didn't know anyone else locally that went- many said that their priority that day was taking their kids to previously scheduled sports games. I do wish that the coaches put a moratorium on sports that day because then parents wouldn't have had to try to prioritize what to do...

Because this was organized by teenagers- it didn't start until noon! Smart kids. Tate and Macy had swim that morning- one session at 8:15, and another at 10:30. Here I am poolside at 8:15-

Back at my house was my kindergarten bestie, Allyson, and her dad Rocky, who had come down to be part of this memorable day. Allyson is from NH and Rocky from Mass. They drove down on Friday and would be staying with us all weekend. Rocky remembers being in DC in the 60's and marching for civil rights- there was no way he was going to miss this opportunity- one he wanted to be part of to now keep his grandkids safe in their schools. 

I found it awesome all day long to see so many other grandparents out there right along side their kids and grandkids. To have 3 generations come together for this cause was so heart warming. 

Brian took the kids to the late swim, and then they would all meet us in the city. Rocky, Allyson and I headed in on the metro (which was unbelievably packed- but all with like-minded people, which felt SO refreshing to me, even if we were squished) and were there for the 12 o'clock start

Brian's commute into the city was a bit different than ours- he found empty trains!

Its as not lost on us all that this march was along Pennsylvania Ave- right in front of Trump Hotel-

We didn't make signs- we kind of wore them

Everyone left their signs at the entrance to the Metro station, which created this beautiful mosaic-

This picture might not look like much, but it was an awesome moment. We all huddled up on the couch to watch the evening news reports and know that we were part of something much, much bigger than ourselves that day!

And Brian made us all some fantastic crab cakes for dinner. Sadly we said good-bye to Allyson and Rocky Sunday morning. A quick, but forever memorable, trip and time spent well together!
