Tate got most of what he needed for his birds for Christmas, except a cage cover. I asked my friend Gloria to make one and she came up with a brilliant idea- for Tate to make it by himself. With her assistance of course.
So one day over Christmas break Gloria took us to the local fabric market and Tate picked out the fabric he wanted. Okay, truth be told- I kind of suggested forced a solid, neutral color since I wanted to see something non-obnoxious out my window daily. And then we went to Gloria's house, where I sat back and she gave Tate his first sewing lesson-

His finished product-
And then he was off to pick out his birds. He found a lovely pair of cocktails-
Let's go home!
Brian (and Tate) really had no idea how in the heck to handle them, or get them out of the contraption they sent them home with us in! Let's just say there was a lot of patience, and squawking!
For the first weekend, they lived inside-
And it really was pretty sweet having them in the living room with us. It was nice having a pet around and then kids enjoyed instant access to them. But, then there were feather and bird seed and- NOPE! So out they went, which was always the plan...
They live right outside our wall of windows, on the patio. It's a perfect spot.
And on the weekends, they come in for some fun. At first, the birds did not want to be held and Tate and Brian had to wear gloves to get them out of the cage. Here they are the first time wondering "what do we do?" And the birds were thinking the same thing!
Meet Giada (lighter color) and Giuseppe (darker color)-
They are so cute to just see walking around the living room.
And soon enough, they were getting pretty friendly-

It's only been a month, but I'd say we are all pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoy our new feathered friends!
