Last day of school

The last day of school is here! I was walking over to the middle school for Macy's honor roll assembly and saw these banners on the windows-

Macy made straight A's 3 out of 4 semesters (3rd semester she missed it with just 1 B)! She was also honored this morning as one of 18 eighth graders chosen to be Student of the Year- out of a class of 258!

Smart scouts- Macy, Bella, Drelyn & Nora-

I absolutely hated that there was no 8th grade moving on/graduation anything for these kids. It was the first normal year since COVID, and with frequent moves, I think they deserve to celebrate. I remember my own 8th grade graduation and dance so vividly- it is such a special memory for me. But the middle school here did absolutely nothing.

So I decided last minute on the morning of the last day of school to do something for Macy and her 8th grade neighbor friends- Austin, Cerise and Gunner.

They'd each get a crummy diploma- sharpie and a torn piece of paper- a flower, and graduation themed candy.

I made the 8th graders wait outside, then took everyone else inside so they had no idea what was happening and that we were staging a graduation ceremony.

Once inside they heard the graduation pomp & circumstance song playing, Bella gave them a flower, then they walked the aisle/hallway and Ella gave them the candy, then Owen was the principal who gave them their diploma and shook their hands. They walked outside to Tate and friend clapping as the audience. Off they walked through the gate to high school....

Saddly Gunner couldn't make the ceremony, but these 3 graduates are now off to high school together!
