Saying thank you- McCullough style

How do you say thank you to so many friends, neighbors and acquaintances who give up their precious free time to help you move ALL of your stuff from one big ass house to another big ass house across town on THE hottest weekend of the summer?

We struggled with this.

And then we had an idea... let's invite everyone over (the Sullivan's, McHale's, Davis', Melendez's, Mann's, Freeman's, Miller's, Hartunian's, Robert's, Byrne's, Barber's, Ludwick's, Brown's and LaVetchi's) to enjoy a family fun night with us. We will feed them, watch an outdoor movie and finally drink this-
Brian bought this giant bottle of 2008 Cabernet Sauvenigon wine from his favorite Napa winery- Ladera- years ago and has just been waiting for the right occasion- his promotion to Colonel or his return from deployment maybe- nope. So this would be the special occasion!

He had to call the Ladera Wine educator for instructions on how to open and serve it! Here we go-

Getting the cork out (the bottle was sealed in wax for preservation purposes) was quite a feat-

It was giant!

And now to decant it for several hours- in every glass vessel we own!

Brian, being such a foodie, knew he wanted to serve up some special food to go with this special wine. As party time got closer, and his to do list got longer, he taught Jose how to be his sous chef quickly. It's not every day you see a Marine using culinary tweezers to make appetizers-

Success!

And just like that, the same with moving day, our yard was full of friends!

It was such a special night. Our yard felt like a community park with everyone in it. There were coolers of drinks, a popcorn bar, candy and snacks- no one wanted for anything, kids or adults. We watched the movie Wonder- which was appropriate as the message was about kindness. These people had showed us such kindness during our time of need...

Fun fact- we'd thought of everything for this night- except where the heck the projector was! Seriously. At one point when I was sick of looking through the basement boxes, I came outside and asked "Does anyone remember where you put the projector on moving day?" Hilarious. Or at least it is now.... (We found it. Or should I be honest and say Brian found it.)
