On Monday March 9th the kids when to school as usual. About 2 hours later an email came out- today would be the last day of school. WHAT??? They would have 2 days off, and then on Thursday March 12 the kids would begin on-line school.
This was the plan for 2 weeks, as spring break was coming up- so they were hopeful that campus would re-open ofter spring break. Okay, we got this...
Thankfully the school was working on this for weeks before the shutdown, so the kids had a very substantial online program each day that took them about 6 hours to get through, just like the school day would. Teachers were available to them, in fact Tate's math teacher once spent 90 minutes on a zoom call with him giving him 1 on 1 interaction/tutoring before a test.
The worst part was that Macy couldn't find the right space to work-
She was like goldie locks!
Tate hunkered down in the diningroom-
The teachers tried to get creative- in health class they had to make healthy snacks, so Tate made smoothies for he and MAcy-
And we parents had to get creative too... were we still going to allow kids to get together? Was it safe? What was best for their physical health AND their mental health?
We decided that they should have "recess" breaks during the day together and one morning I went to workout at the gym (yup, still open but with new precautions in place now) and saw the boys all swimming together for recess-
And then Tate got sick. And I got scared. He had a fever and some gastro stuff going on, but of course my mind went right to covid. We isolated, but he kept up with school work. Notice the thermometer at his "desk"?
Thankfully it was just a stomach thing- e.coli maybe?
And thankfully Brian was around more now to help with school work too-
We told the staff to stay home, stay healthy. And the kids helped a lot more with household chores- which I joked was their home economics class!
