Since we were in the states, I knew we needed to see as many friends and family as we could, outside of California! So I planned a 6.5 week road trip to see our east coast friends and family, starting and ending in Tennessee with Brian's family.
On May 27, we flew to Knoxville-
Flying went well- everyone was calm and masked up!
Our week in Tennessee was great- full of leisurely days with family-
Since we'd last visited, Cathryn got a cat, Yang- which the kids had fun with-
Brian's nephew, Josh, works as a mechanical engineer at a local factory which makes various types of fake sugar... he brought over a sampling one afternoon-
Thankfully he also brought over his beautiful dog, Stark (AKA Bear) to redeem himself for the fake sugar tasting-
One day I got to sneak away solo and drive 3 hours roundtrip to meet up with Ann for the day in Chattanooga-
It was so great to see an old friend while in Tennessee! (She now lives in Alabama...)
While we were in Tennessee, Macy had a birthday. And guess what she got to do? Go meet up with her friend Felicity from Jakarta! The Fellone's, who live in our neighborhood and have a daughter Macy's age and a son Tate's age, evacuated to Arkansas, but were visiting grandparents in Knoxville the same time we were there too! How cool is that? So we planned meet up for a Chic-Fil-A parking lot picnic on Macy's birthday so the kids could all see each other. And sadly, we were so concerned with staying physically distanced, that we forgot to take a picture!
And how did I not take even 1 single picture that day? And it was a lovely day! After lunch with Felicity, we came home and had a bbq for Macy with the family, presents, balloons, a great bbq and apple pies made by Cathryn and Peter. Oops. Well, Macy turned 11 in Knoxville and she had a great day swimming with cousins and feeling so loved.
Honestly, she's a pretty easy kid to love. She's funny. Recently she's been perfecting her accents- the Russian one is my favorite. She is chatty, curious and adventurous. A bit competitive, and really kind. She wants equal justice for all, has a compassionate heart and is a big world thinker. She loves using her body, and would rather run a mile than read a chapter. If she had to choose a Spice Girl, it would be for sure Sporty Spice. But what's so cool about Macy, is that all the other Spice Girls would be her friends. She is welcoming to all, especially the underdog. She is the daughter I always dreamt of having and I can not wait to see what happens for her in the upcoming year.
