unfortunately, gill spent christmas in the hospital. she has had a variety of complications over the last week which have prevented her from having surgery...
with one infection under control, another apparently occured at the sight of her port- so the port has been removed. it was thought that she may have had a blood clot, thank God that she did not. her blood has been tested by an specialist, due to the infections and the results came back clear also. we were told yesterday that she may have a blood transfusion today due to the poor quality of her blood because of all that he body has undergone over the last 2 1/2 weeks while being hospitalized.
the doc wants her on antibiotics for 8 days (today is #7) before he will talk about discharging her. she will most likely go to home to recouperate and give her body time to heal/strengthen before she returns for the surgery. this will be very uncomfortable for her, but the doc does not want to do surgery until she is completely infection free. after a sucessful surgery and recovery, a new chemo start date will be discussed.
everyone took shifts visiting with gill for christmas eve and christmas day- even one of her grandson's who flew in from bermuda! we sent a small christmas tree- with lights and ornaments- to have in her room for some decoration. now if we can just figure out how to get some champagne in there for new year's eve!
