slowing down...

with brian gone about 3 weeks out of every month on average for the past 7 months (but who's counting?!), he gets limited around the house and/or time to do fun stuff with the kids. so this weekend we had NO plans! shocking, i know. all day saturday and all day sunday, pretty much nothing! it was great...

saturday he took the kids to tate's basketball game solo- thanks babe! then brian and tate went to the hardware store to buy supplies to make "bongo boards." these balance toys are popular- and can cost
$50-$100! i guess skateboarders and snowboarders use them- and ninja's... in the march issue of family fun magazine, they have what i call a "daddy craft" showing how to make your own, for less than $20! brian was all over it and actually made the kids each their own-

macy wasn't so sure, but thought it was fun kept trying-
tate quickly became a pro and decided that barefoot was best!
saturday night we went out shopping for a bit- and took macy to the hello, kitty store! brian had never been and therefore had never seen the joy that this store brings her... the kids got a treat for dinner- happy meals! and i don't know why these 'happy meal box on the head/glasses' photos always make me laugh-

sunday after church we went to the brunch on base at the officer's club. it is FANTASTIC and another thing i have done, but brian hadn't yet...

that afternoon brian and tate did another project- planting some spring vegetables from seed-
(i hope i remember to water them!)

after a great weekend, guess what- time for brian to go again! i need to keep it all in perspective and try not to complain though. he's not gone for 9, 12 or 15 months like others. i don't need to worry a ton- he won't be in harms way or in a war zone...

this time- 4 weeks. to korea and hawaii. and he will make it back in time for tate's birthday! that is what counts. not the random wednesday night when we will miss him and i wish he could help with dinner, but the fact that he will be home to celebrate tate's birthday, for tate's sake.

sometimes i use this blog to showcase all the good in our lives. new stuff, fun times. sure, it may seem like I'm bragging and that life is grand. but that's certainly not the case... it's just that this is what i choose to focus on. In our crazy life of moving all the time, constantly starting over, there is a lot of negative stuff too. a lot of sadness, loneliness, uncertainty, anxiety. if i focused on all that, i would be a basket case and i'd be raising kids that were basket cases too.

so instead, i choose to focus on the happy stuff, the fun stuff, the stuff i want to remember about our life, our family. because i don't want to remember how worried i always am to make just one new friend with each move or how i still can't find all of our easter decorations. i could be sad that the movers probably stole our stuff and i could have chosen to stick to myself and not attend that one social where i did actually meet a friend! but i choose not to. I'm learning to choose my attitude. it's hard, but it's my choice. why would you want to choose to be mad, disappointed, etc? right?!

so thats it... sorry for going off on a tangent. but you don't really want to know how sad i am today that brian left again. or that we are all still in our pajamas and it is nearly 11am. my kids have been watching tv for 4 solid hours and they had hostess donuts for breakfast. whatever- it works for us and this is our life. it really is well balanced and we are blessed. i choose to think that way. i choose to recognize the positive. the sun is out- it can be as simple as that for me to choose to be happy!

i am so glad that i have this blog, as blogs are turned into books. this is the way that i record our life, our history. some day we will just sit around, with our grandkids, turning the pages of our blog books, reminiscing and reading aloud all the pictures and thoughts that grandma farrah took the time to record...

grandma farrah- what?!
