let the swimming begin (monday june 11)

(with 2 doses of antibiotics in him, tate was ready for swim lessons! right? i hoped so at least...)

i knew when the summer began that i wanted the kids to spend a good part of the summer in swim lessons- but i just didn't know where to enroll them! we almost had too many options- vacaville, fairfield or the on-base pool? they all had issues- class times, days vs. nights, overcrowding, distance, indoor vs. outdoor, etc...

i had noticed a community center being built next to the library we go to and wondered what they offered... turns out it was the site of the former YMCA, which was demolished so that a new, multi-million dollar facility could be built by the Salvation Army. Named the Kroc Center, because funding is provided by Ray Kroc (the McDonald's founder!), it seemed to be exactly what i was looking for- and the center opened on May 26 and classes began on June 11, perfect timing!

my favorite part of this pool is the retractable ceiling- so that the kids can be swimming indoors, but on beautiful days, it almost feels like being outside. also, because nights here get cool and it is often windy, my kids would have no excuses about getting into either of the heated pools-

because the facility was so new, enrollment was low- perfect for us! macy ended up being the only student in her class

tate was almost as lucky- there was just one other student besides him!

well, it's now been a month of swimming lessons! m-th each week, for 30 minutes and I'm happy to report that they have both been promoted and are doing fabulous! now we will take a break and begin some summer swimming on our own each week...

with all of our guests here lately, the kids loved that brian's mom, dad, sister and my mom and dad were all able to come watch their lessons at least once!

(sidenote- after that first swimming lesson, i lugged the kids with me to the doc that afternoon. i was feeling horrible. she took one look at my throat and prescribed antibiotics- tonsillitis. plus every other symptom that comes with a head cold. ugh. but within 24 hours i felt great and by the time day 3 rolled around, i was feeling like a million bucks! it was about time- i got sick the day after mothers day. i was literally sick and tired of being sick and tired! i love antibiotics.)
