MLK weekend

Our long weekend had a special treat- a visit from The Hosey's! We were stationed with Sean and Ashley in Germany, and now they live in Georgia. But lucky us, Sean's dad lives just 20 minutes from us, so they were in town visiting him and snuck away to spend the afternoon with us!

Sean and Ashley have one son, Peter, who was born right before we all left Germany, so it was wild to see him as a little boy now. He fell in love with a purple dragon costume the kids had in a dress up box, and we were more than happy to send him home with it!

Even thought our visit was short, it felt so good to be together again. Although it also made us all realize how much we'd missed each other!

Monday we decided to head into the city and visit the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial. We hadn't been yet and felt that actually visiting on MLK day would be a great day to go...

From where we parked, we had the opportunity to walk through the FDR memorial on our way to the MLK memorial. We hadn't been to this one either, and it was a great bonus it our day,

So many moving quotes-

Walking into the MLK memorial kind of takes your breath away when you see the monolithic,  towering statue of him up ahead of you-

The statue is made of white granite and is 30 feet tall-

It was such an important day to be there and I loved the simplicity of taking the kids to the memorial on the holiday and talking about what MLK did and why they have the day off of school!

On our walk back to the car, I insisted we stop for a photo with the Washington Monument against the beautiful sky full of color-

Then Brian realized that if we moved over just a few feet, we could also capture the Jefferson Memorial in our photo too-

Apparently I didn't hear the "crazy face photo" announcement for this one though!
