And then suddenly, it was the last day of school.... just like that. The kids finished 1st and 4th grade. We all worked like crazy to make that happen. Kids studying hard, showing up to do their best, parents supporting the kids, and putting in sometimes 9 hours a week at school volunteering. We all have earned this summer break and the last day of school neighborhood party to celebrate!
I filled up 300 water balloons-

Every year for the last 8 years, my neighbor Tiffany has hosted this last day of school party. When the bus drops off, we wait at the bus stop to spray them down with silly string (the bus driver respectfully requested no more water balloons a few years ago. Apparently he didn't like when the balloons made it in the bus, then broke) and then it is a water balloon, water gun free for all, into the night. Lots of fun food, ice cream sundaes and adult beverages. This picture doesn't even do our street justice-
That night we had two families, who actually don't even live in our neighborhood, over for an outdoor movie showing of ET! Such a classic.
Saturday morning we got our volunteering on! Late spring during our weekly bible study, the question came up about how our kids would like to serve. The challenge went out for us to all figure that out and find a way to serve how our kids choose. Tate and Macy honed in on babies. I did a little research and found the DC Diaper Bank. We all went in to volunteer and just fell in love with the work they are doing...
It's one of the few places that kids can volunteer right along side parents!

Tate and Brian filled up this cart for an order of 10,000 diapers from a community agency in need.
Saturday night we went out with our friends from Germany, the Wisneski's and Robert's, to a German restaurant! While there, the guys came up with a grand plan to go biking (something they all used to do together while in Germany) for Father's Day!
There was one more biking buddy usually with them, and that was Chris Leadbetter. Funny enough, the night we all got together for German food, it was his 40th bday. They decided to do a shot together in his honor-
Sunday morning, Father's Day, and they are off biking! Brian planned a route along the Old Dominion Bike Trail, complete with stops at several breweries-
