Macy adored everything about her 4th grade teacher last year, Mrs. Akremi. And while she didn't have any children, she did have a dog, Gus, who she loved as a child and who often times acted worse than a child! Therefore, she would share lots of stories about him with the class, often times they would use a wild Gus story as a writing prompt even. Gus is a Plott Hound (originally bred to hunt bears), so Mrs. Akremi had lots of wild Gus stories to use for teaching material.
Macy asked to meet Gus, and Mrs. Akremi said a summer meet-up with Gus could happen- and it did! And as it turns out, Mrs. Akremi had to switch our original day, and rescheduled on a date when Macy was having a playdate with another classmate from last year, Caroline, so Mrs. Akremi said Caroline could come along. Macy loved surprising Caroline with the news when we picked her up that morning.
We met Mrs. Akremi at a local park, and she brought the girls each their own training/behavior modification gear- clicker, treats and treat bag!
I should have known that Mrs. Akremi would turn this into a teachable moment, perhaps inspiring them to become an animal behavior specialist at a zoo someday!
The girls had such a fun time with Gus- and of course Mrs Akremi too. It was so so kind of her to take a morning during summer vacation and spend it with two former students. Again, just one of the many reasons why Macy (and I) adore her!
