Back in February I had an idea to have a graduation party for Tate's friends and asked fellow senior mom's Amy & Lindsay if they wanted to help me host it. They loved the idea, we picked the date and agreed to keep it fun and easy.
Contracting out the cookies to Lydia was a no brainer- so easy that I let her pick the designs even-
She nailed it! They are all hand painted, edible pieces of art! The gold tassels were amazing. She had never done the school logo and the came out perfect. But what I really loved was how she made 4 different skin tones for the "peace out" cookies that represented the diverse friend group.
The original plan was to have the party outside at our neighborhood pavilion- but then the rain came. So we moved the party in to our house. Not ideal as our house is not meant for entertaining a crowd, but it was still a super fun night for the kids!

When the party moved inside, I had 20 pics of the kids over the last year blown up to hang around the house-
Even stuck a few into our family wall-
They were really surprised and enjoyed taking a look back in all the fun they have had!

Brian and I made a big bbq dinner for everyone. The kids are always here, but we typically just feed them cheap pizza. We wanted this to feel like more than just a regular Sat night at Tate's house!
Amy bought some great gifts and we'd originally thought that the kids would play yard games for the gifts- corn hole, jumbo beer pong, can jam, etc.... But well, the RAIN!
So I came up with indoor graduation themed games for them: Taboo, The Price is Right, Pass the Present, Left-Right Poem
And the grand finale- Family Feud with Brian as the host, complete with the game show music!

Sadly, Coach Gooch (senior advisor & Tate's english teacher for 2 years) had a sick son and was unable to come. But even worse was that fun Coach Gleason (PE, XC & soccer coach) had to fly out that night because her son broke his leg in the US.
But, Coach Dave was with us! Here he is with all his XC kids-
After awhile the kids all played Jackbox together -
Hard to capture 15 kids all in one picture! I don't think I was successful at that all night long...
When they tired of Jackbox- they went outside to play in the rain! These are the most simple and playful group of high school kids ever I dare say. They just want to be together and have fun. So glad that our house can be a safe, fun place for them all to gather.
Did we have enough space? Nope. Did the 12 adults care? Nope. Did the 15 kids care? Nope. Did the seniors feel like they were being celebrated? Absolutely.
Coach Dave gave Tate, Reagan and Sam all a great graduation gift- his favorite hot/cold pack and also a hand written note.
Special times. Special people.
One week of classes left. One week of finals left. Then the real fun comes- graduation and all the school festivities that lead up to that big night! Can not wait.
**the best part of the outdoor party getting rained out was all the adult interaction with the kids. they usually do their own thing, and we listen in from afar. if it was outside- that is how it would have been. but because it rained, we were all together. the VERY best part of the rain was when everyone came into the kitchen to eat and i first asked them to circle up and hold hands, then Brian said a prayer and asked for blessings for all the seniors. That would never have happened if we were outside. Thank you God for the rain!
