He did it. After 20 years of service, the Air Force has promoted Brian to Colonel! What an honor for your employer to say "We choose you. We think you are the best of the best, and we want to keep you." Amazing. (While I have always felt that way about Brian, it's just nice to know that others do too!)
How we found out was pretty amazing too.... Sunday afternoon and we are all just putzing around the house. Brian gets a call from his boss, asking if he'd mind if she stopped by in about 15 minutes? WHAT? Brian's boss is the Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force! Sure, I'll clean quick and get out of my sweats. Ding dong. She's at our door with a bottle of champagne, to congratulate Brian on his being selected for Colonel! So kind, so thoughtful. She easily could have just called him into the office on Monday morning to tell him. She made a point to congratulate the kids and myself as well. She brought me a star shaped candy dish (because the wife always outranks the husband, so now I'm a 1-star general), filled with blue and silver candy, the Air Force colors.
We decided to celebrate with the kids, taking them to a very fancy local French restaurant on Friday night. Brian and I had been once before, and thought that this would be a real treat for them. It's just the cutest place, in a little old house-
Our reservation was at 5:30, and we didn't leave until after 8:30! It was the most amazing dinner. The only time we took out our phones, was to snap some pictures-

One of the maitre d's would occasionally walk by Macy and make silly faces at her. It was so cute and kind of him, as I'm sure he knew our kids were instructed to be on their best behavior. When we sat down, Tate did ask what was on the kids menu? We giggled and explained there wasn't one... We had planned to order an entree for them to split, but our waiter offered up some homemade pasta with mushrooms and spinach instead. Yes please!
Brian and I decided to go big and got the 7 course chef's selection menu, with wine pairings for each dish. Oh.my.goodness. Here is just one course, the lamb-
While Macy tried a bite of several of our courses, Tate tried each and every one. He is our foodie for sure. The dinner was just so unbelievable. It was fun to just talk with the kids, pull out the crayons in my purse and play games with them. For over 3 hours! We explained that with Brian's promotion, he may be put into a job where attending fancy dinners is in their future, so this was like restaurant training for them. But we also had a little surprise for them... While this dinner was definitely for us, the following week, we would take them to a super kid-friendly dinner, just for them and had gotten tickets to the Medieval Times dinner show, where you eat with your hands, and watch knights battle, while riding on horseback. They can't wait....
