In preparation for Macy's girl scout troop learning about girl scouts in Indonesia (Gerakan Pramuka), I was able to get some help from our language instructors, both former girl scouts themselves! My instructor, Ibu Viana, made a wonderful 5 minute video all about girl scouting in Indonesia, which Macy showed her troop at a meeting-
And Brian's Instructor, Ibu Wita, actually came to the meeting to teach the girls the Indonesian art of Batik fabric dying-
Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique, originated from Indonesia, Batik is made either by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap.

And they are off! This was such a treat. Wita has a non-profit and goes into the DC schools and teaches about Indonesian culture. So this evening was something that our girls wouldn't have even participated in I'm pretty sure!
After using the hot wax above, they then dyed their fabric using natural indigo dye-
They created over 200 mini masterpieces to swap with other girl scouts at our World Thinking Day event later this month-
