Amusement at the amusement park! 12/29

about 25 minutes away we have Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Amusement Park. We had never been, even though a couple of our very good friends were season pass holders last year, we didn't join in. I am not much of an amusement park goer- i dont like rides that make me dizzy, crowds, over priced food, etc, etc...

BUT when i heard that a season pass for 2013, with some additional perks, was less expensive than a day ticket to the park, I couldn't resist!  I dragged a very reluctant Brian and two confused kids, since they had never experienced an amusement park, and off we went on 12/29 for the day!

i figured we would just stay for about an hour... nope- there was so much to see and do that we stayed all afternoon!

the animals were quiet a surprise- we all enjoyed the dolphin show! i think it blew macy's mind especially!

because it was the last week of the park to be open for 2012, there wasnt the crowds you would normally expect- so I enjoyed our visit even more! the park was decorated for "holiday in the park" with christmas trees, carolers, and even sledding! you will see...

first the giraffes-

the lions were up and walking around- it was amazing how close we were! macy was a bit nervous and kept telling us to walk away!

the tigers are behind tate. he was measuring his hand in a tiger paw print here-
the elephants were on display, pulling logs. it was crazy how close we were to them!

now for a fewthe rides...

SNOW! because this is 'holiday in the park' week- they brought in snow for sledding- it was fun for even me!

brian went on the scrambler with the kids- no thanks!
"we love it!"
I was shocked that even I enjoyed Six Flags! The small crowds and cool weather helped, but so did the fact that there is SO much to do besides rides. plus- the kids are at a great age finally too! they walk, use the restrooms and are excited to be having a fun day out! they did so great that i promised them we would come back again before they close for the season on 1/6...

brian thought it would be a great idea after six flags to keep going and hit ikea! we wanted a new desk and toy box for macy's room... now, i feel the same way about ikea as i (used to) feel about amusement parks- no thanks! BUT... i must confess- it turned out to be a great night! we even had dinner there- free for kids even!

i guess we are at "that stage" where ikea and amusement parks are fun for the whole family! there were days in the past that they required lots of work- but not it all adds up to just having fun! i need to remember to take advantage of these days... soon enough they will only want to go to an amusement park with their friends or roll their eyes at the thought of shopping and dinner at ikea with their parents. right now, is perfect...
