although we have had and used ernie for 4 years now, the kids are just getting into it as of last year. they still talk about finding the elf in the cookie jar last year, after he apparently fell in while stealing a cookie.
but, brian was gone last year, so he missed out on the fun. i showed him all the crazy stuff people do with their elves on pinterest this year and he got inspired-
the kids loved it! my mom was SO good about remembering to move the elf each night during the 2 weeks she was here. one day she woke up at 4:30am to move him because she just knew we had probably forgotten. she was right! after she left, i set an alarm on my phone to go off at 8:30 each night as a reminder to move the elf! it worked.
funny story though... i always have my ringer off. always. so as i sat at a holiday party on 12/19 during an ornament exchange, a phone started ringing. i knew it was an iPhone ringer, because it is the same one i use for my alarm settings. but- my phone is always off, so it couldn't be me. everyone was checking their phones, lots of "not me" and "not me" being heard. I just sat there... then it clicked- it was my "move the elf" alarm!!!!!! oops! (i sent Brian a text right then and there as a reminder to move the elf!!!!)
